Jesus Loves Me (you)

Across the Hudson river from West Point Academy is Constitution Island, once the home of Susan and Anna Warner. The two sisters lived most of their lives there during the 1800s producing myriad volumes of books from cook books to Christian novels. In 1860, they co-authored one such novel titled, “Say and Seal.” One of the main characters was a little boy, Johnny Fax, who was small, frail, and deathly ill. Coming from a desperate background, Johnny became attached to a teacher who gave him love and attention, Mr. Linden. When Johnny was on deaths door, Mr. Linden was summoned to help comfort and console the boy as life slipped away. The story continues with Mr. Linden holding Johnny in…

Train Up a Child in The Way He Should Go

Proverbs 22:6 (New King James Version) Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. When my son, Zach, was in high school playing football he broke his pinky finger. The school called me to pick him up and take him to the doctor. When I got there his finger was broken at the second digit. It stuck out in an L shape away from his hand. It looked very “nasty”. But Zach said, “I don’t feel any pain and the Lord will heal this.” I took him to the doctor and they straightened his finger. The doctor said because it was fractured at the joint it would…

What cost, the salvation of a child?

If in 1968 you purchased and item for $8,000,000.00, with the cumulative rate of inflation at 608.8%, the same item today (December 2017) would cost $56,705,517.24. What is the value of a child’s soul? With God time is eternal. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. I would argue that in God’s heart the value of one child’s salvation is priceless, today and forever. In 1968 Joan Ganz Cooney spearheaded a group of foundations, educators, TV producers, writers, and sociologists, among others to combat a serious problem. Their goal was to educate underprivileged preschoolers, helping to bring hope into their lives. They spent eight million dollars and eighteen months of seminars, formative evaluation, and pilot testing to develop the…

“What do you want to be when you grow up? ”

You may have had a casual conversation with your little ones about this question. Seeing the sparks in their eyes, you are excited about their reply. Little Johnny says, “I want to be a policeman”. Little Nancy says, “I want to be a doctor”. If the conversation goes further, you may have asked “why do you want to be a doctor, Nancy?”  Nancy replies, “I want to be like that doctor; she helped me and my tummy ache get better”. Like Nancy, all of us have a desire to be someone; someone we admire; someone we consider of value. As parents, we all expect our children to become someone special, someone of value. This is the heart of God. Genesis…

Who’s responsible for the kids?

The first part of John 10:10 tells us that the thief, Satan, the enemy of God, only comes to steal, kill, and destroy.  He doesn’t stop or even slow down his efforts when it comes to children. In fact, Satan knows the value of children to the Kingdom of God and does everything he can to destroy them as soon as possible. It could be blowing them up with vest bombs in a terrorist war, tearing them away from their families and throwing them in the streets to be prey for pimps and drug dealers, distracting them from who they are and why they’re here with social and commercial lies. He even has them killed before they come out of…

Birth of a Ministry

The first time I heard the Lord speak to me I was so excited that for about 2 week I wasn’t so focused on what He said, but that God actually answered me. About a month after receiving the Lord Jesus as my Savior, I knelt beside my bed in prayer.  This was something I hadn’t done since early childhood. At age 54 I was kneeling and humbly dedicating my life to the Lord. Confessing how I hadn’t done too well on my own up to that point, I surrender the remainder of my life to Him.  Asking God what He wanted me to do, I proclaimed that whatever He said I would do.   So, what did God say?…
